i dropped it onto white plexi and lit it from underneath, i.e., the strobe was under the white plexi..

Must be a pain to set it up perfectly for the shot, but I can imagine it's very rewarding :)

I don't. I've actually been thinking about creating a book or materials of some sort and selling it through createspace on amazon. If you are interested and could scrape some money together I'd be willing to give you a one on one session over the phone (or skype) and I could explain my technique.
